One of the worst sensations a person may have is turning up to an important function improperly attired. It might erode your confidence and leave you providing a less favorable view of yourself than if you had worn the appropriate attire. Therefore, it is crucial to dress appropriately for a modeling interview since it will set the tone for your audition and demonstrate professionalism.
Sometimes, the agency or brand may specify what you should dress for an interview, which is fantastic! However, there are numerous times in which you must make the difficult option of what to wear. What should you do in such a circumstance?
What to dress to a modeling interview
Wearing all-black leggings and a black shirt is the ideal appearance for a modeling interview. Wearing black for a modeling interview is the industry standard, and you should wear this look to all of your modeling interviews. It’s a good idea to get one outfit that looks amazing and that you’ll feel comfortable wearing for all of your interviews.
If you’re auditioning for a runway modeling job interview, you’ll also want to wear heels so you can show off your walk if requested.
To make a good first impression: models need to look good with black pants and a black shirt
The reason modeling companies encourage everyone to wear the same clothing to a modeling interview is that it shifts the emphasis away from the clothes and onto the model. As a result, they’ll probably want you to come to your addition wearing just natural makeup or none at all.
The folks you’re interviewing are experts who have interviewed thousands of prospective models before meeting you. In simple black attire with no decorations, they’ll be able to identify what kind of model you are.
Many models believe that wearing expensive attire would mislead a casting director. However, this is not the case. If they’ve requested basic apparel, make sure you follow their instructions.
What should I wear to my modeling interview?
Models often wonder if wearing nice designer clothes will make them look better at their interview. The truth is that the name brand or price of your clothes won’t have any effect on your audition at all. As long as you wear what was asked for, it doesn’t matter how much you spend on your outfit.
The price of the clothes won’t matter because they don’t want the clothes to play a big part in their decision-making, so that they won’t think about it at all. Think of black clothes as a school uniform, where everyone looks the same. This way, no one is given more credit for having expensive clothes.
Your clothes won’t matter unless you wear something they don’t want to see you in. But, of course, doing that will show that you can’t follow directions, which is terrible.
What other clothes will you wear?
If you can’t locate black leggings at the last minute, you may wear a black skirt instead. Ensure your dress isn’t too short or draws too much attention.
When choosing clothes for an audition, remember that you don’t want it to seem like you’re covering up your shortcomings as a model by wearing expensive attire. They’ll see straight through it, so by attempting to stand out; you’ll end up standing out in ways you didn’t intend.

Packing your modeling audition bag
Models should carry an audition bag always stocked with everything necessary for an audition. It would help if you had an additional pair of leggings and a shirt in the bag. If anything were to happen to your clothes, you would be grateful for the bag.
Also included in the bag should be a handful of your compensation cards, pins to modify your outfit as required, and hair ties in case the interviewer wants to see your hair styled differently.
We usually suggest bringing some snacks to an audition. However, there is a risk that your audition may be delayed, so if you intend to eat later, you should not arrive hungry.
What else must you do?
If we could provide one piece of advice to every model that seeks to work with us, it would be to clean up your social media before applying. Upon receiving your application, an agency will first examine your social media accounts. You will not even be granted an interview if they do not like what they see.
